What is "imoni"?

If you travel around the Tohoku region in Japan in autumn, you will
be able to see a great number of people gathered in a river beach.
Itfs an "imoni " (simmered taro ) party.

The imoni party is one of the traditional customs preserved in
the northeastern area of Japan. When autumn comes, people go to the
river beach where they make a cooking range of stones to boil taro,
beef and "konnyaku," a gelatinous cake made from bulbs, in a hot pot.
This traditional event has been maintained since the Edo period.

In Yamagata City, On, "imoni party festival of top of Japan?" is held
on the first Sunday of September every year. In this festival, a huge
6-meter-size pot is prepared, and 3 tons of taro and 1.2 tons of
beef are boiled in it.
If you have a chance of visiting Yamagata in this season, how about
joining the imoni party yourself ?
